The Serbian national team has participated at Women’s EHF EURO events since 2008 in North Macedonia. The team’s biggest success so far is silver at the Women’s World Championship 2013 in Belgrade, where the final match against Brazil was attended by a record number of fans (19,400). Serbia’s best results at the EHF EURO is fourth at the same venue in 2012.

Serbia failed to qualify for the EHF EURO main round in 2008, 2010 and 2014. At EHF EURO 2018 in France Ljubomir Obradovic’s team finished 11th. They improved on this result at the World Championship 2019 with a sixth-place finish, giving them a spot at the Olympic qualification tournament which will be held in March 2021.

Serbia’s squad for EHF EURO 2020 includes several players with significant international experience, perhaps most notably Andrea Lekic, who was All-star Team centre back at EHF EURO 2012 and IHF Player of the Year in 2013, and captain Katarina Krpez-Slezak, who recently returned to the court after maternity leave.

KATARINA KRPEŽ-ŠLEZAK

Krpež-Šlezak is the captain of the national team. The 32-year-old right wing of the Russian team HC Rostov-Don, who became a mother last February, has been getting back in form in the months before the Women’s EHF EURO 2020. Krpež-Šlezak was the top scorer of the last Women's EHF EURO 2018 in France and has played more championships than anyone else in the current Serbian squad. She was a part of the silver-medal winning squad at the World Championship 2013 in Belgrade.

ANDREA LEKIĆ

One of the greatest players of the last decade in women's handball, Lekić is getting back into the squad after missing the IHF Women’s World Championship 2019 in Japan due injury. The IHF World Handball Player 2013 has been a member of the national team since the EHF EURO 2006 in Sweden. The 33-year-old playmaker was a part of the Serbian team in the best two years at the tournament on home soil – 2012 and 2013, when they won silver. Lekić currently plays for ZRK Buducnost Podgorica.

Ljubomir Obradović has been in control of the national team since May 2017. The experienced 66-year-old coach has led the team at three big events since the World Championship 2017 in Germany (ninth place) with the biggest success in Japan 2019, where team finished in the sixth place and booked Olympic qualifications tickets. Obradović’s biggest success on the national team level was winning the gold medal at the Men's U20 EHF EURO 2000 with the team of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro). He won national championships with teams in Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro), North Macedonia and Portugal. Currently, he is working also as head-coach of ZRK Naisa Nis.
