Official updates from the European Handball Federation regarding the Women’s EHF EURO 2020

5 December

The Serbian national team has been cleared to play at Women’s EHF EURO 2020, after PCR tests that were conducted on Saturday at 8:00 hrs in the morning all returned negative. The tournament management, which had also sought medical advice prior to the decision, therefore decided that all Serbian players which have had two negative tests in a row can leave their isolation.

The roommate of the first player, who had been tested positive on 3 December, is also cleared to play. The roommate of the second player, who had been tested positive on 4 December, remains in isolation. Serbia face the Netherlands on 5 December at 20:30 hrs at Sydbank Arena in Kolding.

The Serbian players will be tested again on Sunday morning.

4 December

The European Handball Federation announces that on Friday a second player of the Serbian national team has been tested positive for Covid-19. Subsequently and in line with the hygiene protocol for the Women's EHF EURO 2020, the player and her roommate have been isolated. The entire team remains in quarantine and will be tested again on Saturday at 8:00 hrs in the morning. Once the test results are available, the tournament management of Women's EHF EURO 2020 will convene and decide on further steps. 

In the meantime, Covid-19 tests conducted with the teams of Czech Republic, Sweden, Spain, Russia, Germany, Poland, Norway and Romania all turned out negative.

3 December

On Thursday (3 December), upon the arrival of the national team of Serbia, one player of the national team of Serbia was tested positive for Covid-19. In line with the hygiene protocol in place at Women’s EHF EURO 2020, the player has been isolated and remains in quarantine. All remaining team members’ tests were negative. They have been isolated and will be tested again tomorrow (Friday).

To ensure the safety of all players at Women’s EHF EURO 2020, the national team of Serbia will then be tested again on Saturday. The tournament management of EHF EURO 2020 has subsequently taken the decision that the group C match, Netherlands vs Serbia, scheduled for 4 December, 20:30 hrs, will be postponed and re-scheduled to 5 December, 20:30 hrs. Additional information will be released by the EHF in due course.

2 December

The national team of Romania has left its isolation in Kolding after Covid-19 tests that were conducted yesterday (Tuesday) as well as today returned negative. The team is therefore cleared to play and can take the court on Thursday for its first match against Germany (18:00 hrs CET). To ensure the safety of all players and officials, the daily test regime will continue.

1 December

On Monday evening (30 November), upon the arrival of the national team of Romania and before entering the red zone, one player of the national team of Romania was tested positive for Covid-19. In line with the hygiene protocol in place at Women’s EHF EURO 2020, the player has been isolated and remains in quarantine. All remaining team members’ tests were negative. They have been isolated and will be tested again today (Tuesday) as well as tomorrow. Additional information will be released by the EHF in due course.
